split endsMany people do not realize this, but split ends and frizzy hair are not synonymous. Just because your hair seems to be coarse and unruly, this does not mean that the ends are split. In order to determine if you actually have this issue, you should look at your hair very carefully. If you notice that the entire strand of hair is not the same thickness, chances are you have split ends.

In the event that you want to avoid split ends as a whole or you want to stop the ones you have from worsening, it would be a good idea to pay close attention to the following advice.

DO wash your hair every time you have completed a workout. Many people are not aware of this, but working out releases sweat, which contains a fair amount of salt. When this comes in contact with your hair, it can erode your hair and create split ends.

DON’T rip your comb through your hair if it is very tangled. You should take a wide-toothed comb and use it to gently remove the tangles. At that point, it will be fine for you to comb your hair as you wish. Pulling and tugging on tangled hair will only lead to more split ends than you are prepared to deal with.

DO avoid hair bands that are made of elastic. These can cut into your hair follicles and cause a fair amount of damage. There are some hair bands that were made with this in mind so they are coated with a protective layer of cloth. These are the only ones you should use for your hair. Otherwise, there is a chance you will end up with split ends.

DON’T buy hair products that claim to heal split ends. All these do is glue the hair together and make it appear as if things are repaired. The reality is that your hair will be just as damaged. These products were created to prey on the vulnerable, so make sure that you avoid them like the plague.

DO make it a point to be gentle when you are drying your hair. Do not rub your hair so roughly that it will cause damage. You should blot your hair with a towel a little at a time. Rubbing vigorously will only lead to damaged hair follicles, and that is the opposite of what you are aiming for.

DON’T blow dry your hair all of the time. The heat from the dryer can cause a ton of damage, so it is useful to allow your hair to air dry sometimes. You should also bear in mind that it is best to use a hair dryer on a cool setting to avoid any damage from heat.

Split ends may seem like a trivial issue, but they can cause serious damage if they are not taken care of in a timely manner. Use all of this advice if you want to have healthy hair.
